StarDefense has arrived and BAM! The Entire Galaxy In Your Pocket

The last few days i am up to long and wake up to tired, missing busses and metros... yes it's a normal behavior for the first week of an ngmoco release. StarDefense an intergalactic 3D tower defense game developed from ngmoco & RoughCookie has finally arrived the App Store ($5.99)

Again, the galaxy is in your hands. Protect your planet system and help to survive the mankind from getting over run by some ugly S’rath aliens. What in a matter of fact are the seam dangerous as ugly, and show up in all kind of forms from small swarming critters to large cyborgs. But don't worry ngmoco and RoughCookie have been assembling you with some kick ass tower defense weapons to show this aliens who's the boss in this universe.

Ok but let's go a little bit more into the detail. The games concept is classic tower defense, so for somebody who is familiar with the genre, this title will be a pick up and play. If you never where into tower defense games, like me then this is a great time to start because this title stands out from all the other TD games at the App Store. Ngmoco wraps up your battle map into a completely different perspective and views your map as a 3D ball or cube planet. Each planet (map) has a different environment and needs a different strategy.

Awesome graphics, underlined with great sound effects create an awesome atmospheres. However the entire game is just beautiful to watch, and you can see that this game is made with love to the detail. The controlling is of corse via touch screen. To move around your planet, create, upgrade or sell towers you have to scroll zoom, pinch, swipe use the typical iPhone gestures.

Tower defense or TD games are sub genre of real-time strategy computer games. The goal is to try to stop enemies from crossing the map by building towers which shoot at them as they pass. Enemies and towers usually have varied abilities and costs. When an enemy is defeated the player earns money or points, which are used to buy or upgrade towers.

What keeps the gameplay on a high level is that you have to build, defend and act in realtime. Not like in other TD games where you have the ability to pause, check out the situation and build towers. Either do, you have a maximum number of towers you can build on each planet (map), so sometimes you have to sell a weak tower to buy a stronger one.

You have three different forms of weapons to send this aliens into the nirvana... Bullets, laser, and electrics. But be aware that every once in a while a  wave of aliens will be protected against one of your weapons, so you have to build a good mix of all kind of towers to not be overrun.

The latest Star Defense update is now live in the App Store. Version 1.1 adds a Challenge Log, which displays the ten most recent challenge tweets, to the main Star Defense menu. Now you won’t even have to leave the game to find new challenge mode scores to best—and you can broadcast your victories to Star Defense players everywhere. The update also fixes a bunch of miscellaneous bugs.

You may wonder where my post title "StarDefense has arrived and BAM! The Entire Galaxy In Your Pocket" came from.. oh well, watch the most brilliant iPhone game presentation at the WWDC.

The new iPhone OS 3.0 firmware will roll out on the 17.06 and bring some amazing new opportunities for developers and more interactive gaming for us. With the upcoming update it will be possible to make In App purchases, so for an example it will be soon possible in Stardefense to purchase new galaxies and endless add ons.

Stardefense puts definitely every other tower defense game at the App Store into the second row. The production level is high and will be hard to top for a while.
